In September 1934 a department under the name of Pars Agency was established in the Ministry of foreign affairs aimed at gathering news in the country and presents them to people and the press.
The Pars agency functioned for 6 years as an affiliated departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in May 1940 the Propagation organization was established and the Pars Agency became a sub-division of this organization and later the Agency as part of the propagation department became under the auspices of Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Post, Telegraph and Telephone, Prime Minister's office and Ministry of Labor.
In 1957, the propagation Department became an independent organization and was put under the auspices of the chairman of publications and Radio. In March 1963, the Ministry of Information and Tourism was established and the Pars News Agency and was affiliated to the newly established ministry.
In 1975, the Pars News Agency, still under the auspices of the Ministry of Information and Tourism was transferred to a state owned independent company with special article of association. In Nov. 1981, the Pars News Agency, upon the approval of the Islamic Consultative Assembly (Majlis) was renamed as the Islamic Republic News Agency and presently this organization functions as one of the state owned independent companies affiliated with the Ministry of culture and Islamic Guidance.
This organization, based on items 1 and 13 of its articles of association, is authorized to gather and disseminated news, reports, articles, and photographs about Iran and other countries by concluding agreements and contracts with local and foreign legal or real persons for transaction of such items and make use of the expertise and consultation of Iranian or foreign individuals and institutions.
Legal status of the organization
Based on item 4 of the organization's articles of association, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRANA) is financially and legally independent entity affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and based the rules governing the state owned companies is functioning under commercial principles, based on a clause of the same article, this organization is functioning under the county's commercial law.
objectives, responsibilities and organizational authorities
The Islamic Republic News Agency in order to attain the objectives stipulated in item 1 of the organization's articles of association is authorized to sign agreements with local and foreign legal and real persons for transaction of News stories, articles, reports, commentaries and photographs in Iran and international level and to make use of the expertise and consultation of individuals and institutions. The organization upon the approval of the concerned authorities can establish branch offices within the country and abroad.
The news organization is a legal and financially independent entity which before the revolution was affiliated to the Ministry of information and Tourism and after the revolution is functioning as one of the organizations overseen by the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and based on the organization's article of association is working in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the state owned companies and commercial principles. This organization is subject to trade laws on areas which are not stipulated in the articles of associations. The organization is also legally bound to fulfill all the commitments and undertaking of former Pars News Agency by the time of approval of its articles of association in 1975. it is worth mentioning that following the victory of the Islamic Revolution the organization structure of the organization has been modified to comply with the coordinated salary system and based on this arrangement has a special healing in country's budget bill for its current:

According to item 10 of the organization's articles of association, the general assembly has the following powers and responsibility:
Review and approval of the annual budget
Review and approval of the annual report, balance sheet and assessment of profits and losses
appointing the elect members of the supreme council
review and confirmation of proposal made by the general manager concerning the amendment of the items of the articles of association to be brought up at the concerned authorities
Review and approval of the financial and commercial rules of procedures upon the approval of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs.
Review and approval of the organizational chart administrative and employment rules based on the employment regulations of the state owned companies upon the approval of Administration and Employment organization.
Decision making for receiving loans and credits from bank and financial institutions.
Decision making on investing in other relevant institutions.
Determining the salary and Bounces of the general manager and his deputies upon the approval of the salary and Bounces council and deciding the fee for the auditor (inspector)
Deciding the rights of the elected members of the supreme council in the meeting based on the approval of the salary and fee council
Increasing the capital of the organization upon the recommendation of the general manager.
Deciding making on other issues in the framework of the Articles of association which would be reviewed in the General Assembly's meeting.

The first edition of Iran Newspaper was published on Jan.20.1994. the main topics covered by this newspaper include, news and reports about cultural, political, social and economic developments and events. This newspaper, in addition to distribution throughout the country is being distributed in a number of Asian and European countries.
3- Iran Sport
This newspaper which being published printed fully colored appeared for the first time in news stand on Apr.20,1997 as the first national sport newspaper.

In Iran Yearly is being published annually and its first edition became available on Mar.1996
5- Iran Sepeed
This is a special publication for the blind and is prepared in Brail Alphabet. This paper is aimed at informing the blind about daily news and important political, cultural, social, sport, literature and art events. Its first edition appeared on Nov.18, 1996
6- Iran Daily
This English newspaper was first published on Apr.20.1997. this newspaper is being published to keep the foreign nationals, foreign embassy staff and other foreign nationals working in Iran informed of the main political, social, cultural, economic and sport events.
7- Alvefag Arabic Daily
This is a socio-political daily which covers local and foreign political, economic, cultural, sport and social news stories and miscelianeous articles and news items.
8- Iran Azin
The first monthly covering house and office decoration topics and as a specialized publication has its own audience.
